About Us
Who are we?
We are a group of parents and guardians associated with St James The Great primary school in Thornton Heath, united in our love of cycling with our children.
Cycling provides many benefits, including health benefits as well as benefits to the environment and your wallet. However, at our Club the emphasis is firmly on having FUN.
If you need to discuss anything related to the Club or cycling, just catch one of our volunteer marshals, who are:
Dele Fatoba
Dele has been a confident road rider for many years and is an experienced ride leader. Dele is very approachable and can often be found in the Waiting Circle after school, when he will be happy to chat about cycling.
Channa and Elizabeth De Zoysa
Known as the ‘cycling family’, Channa and Elizabeth have been cycling to St James the Great for over 8 years, with their children progressing from being on child seats to riding independently to school.
Where do we go on rides?
Our rides are leisurely rides, no more than 8 miles, starting and ending at St James The Great school. We usually ride to one of the many lovely parks in the area, with a stop en-route for tea and coffee with cake. The idea is to learn a new skill together with our children and spend some time getting to know some other parents and carers from the school. To find out more about our rides, look at the Past Rides section.
Who can come on the rides?
Anyone can join in on the rides, and no special preparation is needed, although we do recommend that before joining a ride, you have your bike looked at by our bicycle mechanic at one of our regular Dr Bike sessions, who will carry out a health check of your bicycle to ensure that it is roadworthy. At the Dr Bike session, you can also have any minor repairs carried out for free.
